Les Sorts Vinyes Velles is the flagship wine of the Celler Masroig. It is a cuvée of 85% Carinyena and 15% Garnatxa Negre of vines with an age between 60 to over 110 years. The vines grow in red clay as well as lime and slate floors at a height of 100m - 300m. There are very low yields and the highest concentration of aroma and taste with yields of around 3,000 kg/ha. After the harvest by hand in September and October 2016, the grapes were brought to the basement in 15 kg boxes, where winemakers José Carlos Ríos carried out the maceration and fermentation at 24 ° -26 ° C in the stainless steel tank for 28 days. The must was fermented by the must using natural and pure breeding yeasts.
The wine was of course clarified by sedimentation and filled into new 300-liter barrels from French oak, in which biological acid reduction takes place before it continues to matured for 17 months. Only now was the cuvée composed and the wine matured in the bottle for another 24 months before it was released for sale.
Les Sorts Vinyes Velles is a emphasized gastronomic wine and finds its place on the wine cards from well -known restaurants such as Streetxo in Madrid, El Rincon de Diego in Cambrils and Nectari or Isop in Barcelona - all restaurants with a Michelin star.
